Chapter 4. Set the Camera Options > Self-Timer/Remote Control

Self-Timer/Remote Control

If you'd like to take a picture and be in it at the same time, you can use the self-timer function. Set up the shot, and turn on the self-timer. The camera will wait 10 to 20 seconds after you push the shutter button before actually taking the picture, giving you time to run and get in the shot.

In case it needs to be said, the self-timer/remote control requires that the camera be on a tripod or other stationary object.

Some cameras offer a remote control, which allows you to simply press the button on a little remote gizmo to take the picture (Figure 4.22).

Figure 4.22. Kaity became a photographer by pushing the button on the remote control and taking her own picture.

The self-timer/remote can also be useful if you're taking a tripod shot and don't want to shake the camera when pushing the shutter button.
