Chapter 12. Photo Projects > Use Your Photos for Auctions

Use Your Photos for Auctions

The digital camera is the perfect tool for advertising things on eBay or other auction sites. But it pays to set up your shot properly and edit your picture if you want to up your chances of getting the most interest in an item. Creating a photo for an auction is not much different than preparing it for any other online use: You need to pick the right photo, get it onto your computer, then get the photo to the auction site.

Start by creating the right setting for your photo. If the subject is small enough, put a contrasting background behind it before you shoot, and make sure that the object is the only thing in the photo (Figure 12.6). You can shoot at a low resolution, because your final image will be seen onscreen, but make sure that the object is sharply in focus. Edit out any thing that might distract from the main attraction. Save the edited file with a name that describes exactly what the object is; this is particularly important if you're selling more than one thing at a time.
