One big difference between film photography and digital photography can be summed up in two words: instant fun.

A film image exists only as a negative and a print or slide. If you want to do something other than frame the photo, you'll have turn the picture over to a professional service or scan it into a computer. But digital photos are already in computer format. They don't cost anything to duplicate, and after fixing and altering them you can use them in almost any imaginable way: turn them into gifts or cards, or add them to movies; make art or make 'em laugh with customized gags. Or keep a clever seven-year-old busy for hours.
