Altering and Editing Images

All of the changes we've talked about so far involve things that you might have been able to correct in your camera settings before even taking the shot or, if using a traditional camera, in the darkroom. But the most fun aspects of editing digital photos are the things you could never do with a traditional setup: the changes that play games with reality.

You definitely need image-editing tools to make the changes in this section: selection tools, masking, a cloning tool, a dodge-and-burn tool, and layers. Bear in mind that the following are examples. Unlike photographic changes, image retouching is different for every image you retouch. The suggestions are general; you'll have to adapt them to the program you use and each picture you take.
