Your Hardware and Environment

The final piece of the retouching and compositing puzzle is the hardware you work with, and the environment you choose to work in. If you’re a Photoshop veteran, you probably have the three most important requirements taken care of already (a lot of RAM; more RAM than that; and some additional RAM that you never expected would be so useful). But here’s a run-down of the physical goodies you’ll want to have in place when you begin your image manipulations in earnest.

Equipment

You don’t need to break the bank to equip yourself with an ideal system for retouching and compositing. Computer processing power has continued to run far enough ahead of the requirements of most applications that a medium-priced computer will do what you need. Just follow these guidelines:
