Glossary

Glossary

Pictures are worth a thousand words, particularly when you try to sort out the jargon involved to describe how they are made, edited, and printed. This list includes all the really tough words in this book, and more than a few that are not. Whether you’re working with an associate who likes to pretend he knows more than you do, or you plan to impress the boss at the next company meeting, this glossary will help you understand the terms used in image editing, retouching, and compositing.

additive primary colors

The red, green, and blue colors used alone or in combinations to create all other colors you view on a computer monitor or capture with a digital camera or scanner. Photoshop’s default RGB mode uses these colors, even when you’re working in other color modes, such as CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black). See also CMY(K) color model.
