Converting to Grayscale with Channels

If you want a pleasing rendition that differentiates all the tones cleanly, even if it isn’t necessarily the most accurate version possible, using one of the color channels is a highly viable procedure. By working with the Channels palette, you can look at each of the red, green, and blue layers separately (or cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, if you’re working with the CMYK color model) and choose the one that looks the best. You can make your selection visually and not have to spend a lot of time fiddling with various controls.

Using the frutto.pcx file, follow the procedure outlined next to make a color to grayscale conversion. First, make sure you’re set up properly by completing the following steps:
