Chapter 7. Paint Shop Pro 8 Effects > User Defined Filters

User Defined Filters

You can create your own simple filters with the User Defined Filter facility. When Paint Shop Pro had limited blur, sharpen, and edge detection functions, User Defined Filters were particularly useful for getting fine-tuned effects of these sorts. Paint Shop Pro now has much more powerful adjustment filters, but that doesn’t mean User Defined Filters are passé, and I strongly encourage you to give them a try.

To start a new filter, choose Effects > User Defined. You’ll then see the User Defined Filter dialog box, which includes a matrix into which you enter values, and a few other controls. The effect that your filter produces depends on the settings you enter.
