Chapter 1. Basic Drawing and Painting Tools

Chapter 1. Basic Drawing and Painting Tools

The first tools that you’re likely to use in Paint Shop Pro are the basic drawing and painting tools, such as the Paint Brush, Airbrush, Preset Shape tool, Eraser, Pen tool, and Text tool. In this chapter, you’ll explore these simple drawing and painting tools by looking at both the basic functions and the more advanced features of each one. For now, you’ll examine painting and drawing only on raster layers. In Chapter 6, “Working with Vectors,” you’ll examine vector drawing.

Throughout this chapter, keep in mind that many of the painting tools behave differently depending on whether you use them with the left mouse button or the right mouse button. If you paint with the left mouse button depressed, the current Foreground material is used. If you paint with the right mouse button depressed, however, the current Background material is used. (Refer to the Paint Shop Pro documentation if you’re unsure how to select the Foreground and Background colors in the Materials palette.)
