Part 11. Preparing to Publish > Preparing a Still Image for Video

Preparing a Still Image for Video

A curious problem arises from the fact that computer images have square pixels, but in digital video they're rectangular. You might think this an odd technicality, but if you make video titles or DVD menus in Photoshop Elements and don't follow these steps, the images will look squished when you convert them to video.

Start with an image that's 720×540 pixels open in the active image area. Choose Image, Resize, Image Size.

Uncheck Constrain Proportions.

Check Resample Image.

Keeping the Width at 720, change Height to 480 pixels and click OK.

TIP

What's Your System?

Digital video (DV) editing is coming to a PC near you. Windows Movie Maker, Apple iMovie, and Pinnacle Studio are examples of the many applications available for assembling your home movie footage in creative ways.

Choose Filter, Video, NTSC Colors.

If you see a simplify warning, click OK.

Click Save.
