Scanning Images

Scanning and storing your old snapshots in your computer is not only a wonderful way to reduce clutter and organize those shoeboxes full of prints but also Photoshop Elements has lots of ways to bring back faded color, touch up complexions, and even erase uninvited guests.

With the item to be scanned on the scanner glass and the lid closed, open Photoshop Elements and choose File, Import, WIA Support or the name of your scanner, if it's shown.

Click Start.

When using WIA Support, if you have more than one camera or scanner attached to your computer, choose the scanning device you want to use, and click OK.

NOTE

Final Destination

These steps create a file automatically. Specify the disk location in the Destination Folder field of the WIA Support dialog box. Be sure to resave the file if you edit the image.

TIP

Not My Type

The WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Support feature scans a photo as a Windows bitmap (.bmp extension) by default. To change the file type, choose File, Save As and change the Format after the image has been imported.

Choose the type of picture, such as Color Picture.

Click Scan. The scanned print appears in the active image area, ready for editing.

After you edit the picture, click the Save button to save your work.
