Creating and Modifying Brushes

You can create your own brushes in Illustrator, and you can alter the brushes supplied with the program to fit your needs. Because brushes are stored with a particular file, you can freely alter the default brushes without fear of causing problems for other documents. And, of course, you can reload those default brushes when needed.

Because brushes are stored with a specific document, the brushes you create or modify are not automatically available for use with other images. Using a simple technique, though, you can make all your hard work available to other documents. See the section “Illustrator at Work: Creating Custom Brush Libraries,” later in this chapter.
