The Basics of Transforming

There's nothing in the category of transformations that cannot also be done with the Selection and Direct Selection tools. However, using Illustrator's transformation commands and tools and the Transform palette allows you to quickly and precisely change the shape of paths and objects. Transformations can be performed on objects, open paths, selected anchor points of objects and paths, and on groups. The transformation tools and menu commands and the Transform palette are shown in Figure 28.2.

Figure 28.2. Note that the Twist tool is gone from Illustrator CS. The Twirl command and Twist effect/filter remain to provide that capability.
