Transformations and Distortions in Illustrator

When a transformation or distortion is applied to an open or closed path, the anchor points and/or the direction lines for the anchor points are moved. Changing the path will alter not only the appearance of the stroke and fill but also any effects applied to the selection.

Generally speaking, a transformation is applied to paths, objects, or groups selected on the artboard. You can also use most of the transformation commands and tools with selected anchor points to change part of an object or path.
