Noise Filters

Noise filters can be used not only to add noise, but to remove it, as well. If you do a lot of scanning, two filters in particular should be your friends: Despeckle and Dust & Scratches. One of the drawbacks to scanning images is you are likely to capture some degree of dirt, dust, and other detritus from the scanbed as part of the digital image. And just when you thought that digital photography might alleviate some of that problem, there is also the problem of noise that some digital cameras can add to an image.

The other blur filters—Radial and Motion Blur—are creative filters discussed in Chapter 14.
