Layers and Objects

You say that Photoshop doesn't recognize such things as circles and squares and other objects made from pixels. Yet I routinely drag a circle made from pixels around in an image. What's going on?

If the pixels that form the “circle” are on a separate layer, you can treat them as a separate object. You're not dragging an object; you're repositioning a layer. This, by the way, is an important concept for moving artwork back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator. Illustrator recognizes objects. When you open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, you can have each layer become a separate object. You can then manipulate the “objects” individually in Illustrator. (The artwork will still be rasterized, however.)
