The Brushes Palette

The Brushes palette is the heart of Photoshop's painting capabilities. This palette is the doorway to an exciting level of creativity in Photoshop. Understanding how the palette works—and what it offers—is the key to that doorway. New in Photoshop CS are “locks” that can be used to maintain a brush attribute, even when you switch brush tips. This section looks at the Brushes palette layout and its menu.

The Palette Layout

Like the Layer Style dialog box, the Brushes palette's Expanded View mode uses a two-column configuration (see Figure 13.16).
