Adjusting Tonality

Hold down the (Option) [Alt] key when selecting the Adjustments commands that have dialog boxes and they will open with the most recently used settings. You can use the earlier adjustment again or use it as a starting point for a new adjustment.

The range of lightness and darkness in an image is often critical to its appearance. If the whites aren't bright enough, they look gray. If the brighter parts of the image are too bright, the highlights are “blown out” and lack detail. Likewise, if too many pixels are too dark, you get muddy, detail-less shadows. Photoshop offers quite a few tools for correcting the brightness of an image. You'll find several powerful tools in the Image, Adjustments menu. Adjusting the tones of an image is often referred to as remapping.
