Evaluating Images

The Info palette is tied to the Eyedropper tool, whose options determine the sample for the palette's readings. If the Eyedropper is set to Point Sample in the Options Bar, a single pixel's value is displayed. To avoid false readings, set the Eyedropper to 3×3 Average for low-resolution images and 5×5 Average for high-resolution images.

Photoshop has a number of tools that can help you evaluate images. Some, such as the Proof Colors command, rely on accurate monitor calibration and proper color management. Others, such as the Info palette and the new Histogram palette, objectively measure color but are still dependent on profiles selected in Color Settings.
