Resizing Canvases and Images

The Image menu contains a pair of commands that change an image's size. The Canvas Size command works like the Crop tool in its normal mode, deleting (or adding) an image area without changing the image that remains. Image Size resamples the image, maintaining the image appearance as much as possible while increasing or decreasing the number of pixels used to portray the image.

If the Trim command isn't getting everything you want it to remove, try using the Magic Wand and deleting first to create a uniform area to trim. Consider using Trim before any technique that relies on a histogram, too. Removing those excess pixels gives you a more accurate read of the image.
