Designating Layers as Templates

Double-clicking the name of a layer or sublayer opens the Layer Options dialog box. A check in the Template box makes several decisions for you. Templates are automatically made nonprinting and locked. They are dimmed to a default of 50% opacity, but that level can be adjusted on an individual basis, layer by layer. Three changes take place in the Layers palette:

  • The eye icon is replaced by the template icon, a triangle-circle-square.

  • The locked icon appears in the second column.

  • The name of the layer or sublayer appears in italics to indicate that it is a nonprinting layer.
