Chapter 35. Illustrator's Effects and Filters > The Bottom of the Menus—Raster

The Bottom of the Menus—Raster

Below the vector-related filters and effects in Illustrator's Filter and Effect menus is a blank line. Below the line, the lowest set of commands, are the filters and effects designed for use with raster artwork and rasterized objects.

Artistic (Filter/Effect)

The Artistic filters and effects apply fine art looks to the selected artwork. They are meant to simulate natural or traditional art media. When an Artistic effect is applied, a vector selection is rasterized as an effect. The effect and filter versions can be applied to raster artwork that is opened or placed into an Illustrator document, or to rasterized objects. With filters, the objects must be rasterized using Object, Rasterize rather than Effect, Rasterize.
