Illustrator's Filter and Effect Menus

Filters and effects fall into two categories: those applied to vector (Illustrator) objects and those applied to rasterized artwork. At the top of each menu are a couple commands that allow you to quickly reapply a filter or effect. The Effect menu also has a command that governs rasterization. The remainder of the two menus are divided into two sections. Generally, the commands located in the middle section of the menus are for vector, whereas those in the lower parts are raster filters (see Figure 35.7). Such filters as Drop Shadow can be applied to both vector and rasterized artwork.
