Chapter 37. Illustrator and the Web > Advanced Web Capabilities in Illustrator

Advanced Web Capabilities in Illustrator

In addition to generating HTML code with Save for Web, Illustrator can give you a head start on building your Web pages with a couple other sophisticated features. You can generate Cascading Style Sheets and subdivide your images into “slices” from Illustrator, and even create a link to another Web page or site as an image map.

Creating and Saving CSS

Illustrator uses its layers and Save for Web to create Cascading Style Sheets. Objects are organized on the artboard and placed on appropriate layers. Each top layer can become a separate CSS layer when the file is optimized in Save for Web. (Only top layers can become CSS layers.)
