Additional Path-Related Tools

Quite a few of Illustrator's other tools can be considered to have path-manipulation capabilities. The transform and liquify tools, for example, change the appearance of objects by altering the objects' paths. (These tools are examined in Chapter 28, “Transforming and Distorting Objects.”) Several other tools are designed to work directly with paths, rather than with objects.

The Smooth Tool

You can find the Smooth tool beneath the Pencil tool. It reduces sharp curves and angles in paths. Often you can simplify a complex path by using this tool. Additional application of the Smooth tool results in additional smoothing, as shown in Figure 24.29.
