Editing Paths

Illustrator offers numerous ways to change paths. You can add and subtract anchor points. You can reposition one or more anchor points. You can apply various filters and use various tools to change a path. You can even manipulate a curve by changing the direction lines of one or more anchor points.

Using the Direct Selection Tool with Points and Segments

When you click an object or drag across it with Illustrator's Selection tool, you select the object as a whole. The object's entire path will move as a unit. Using the Direct Selection tool enables you to select and move individual anchor points, one or several at a time. You can also select and move path segments with the Direct Selection tool.
