About the Authors

Peter Bauer is the help desk director for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), the largest graphics association of its kind. He is an Adobe Certified Expert in both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. A computer graphics consultant, he writes for PlanetPhotoshop.com and IllustratorWorld.com and is a contributing writer for Photoshop User and Mac Design magazines. He is also a member of the instructor “Dream Team” for Photoshop World.

Pete is the author of Special Edition Using Adobe Photoshop 7 (with Jeff Foster), Special Edition Using Adobe Illustrator 10, Sams Teach Yourself Adobe Illustrator 10 in 24 Hours (with Mordy Golding), Special Edition Using Adobe Illustrator 9, and a contributing author for Photoshop 6 Web Magic. He has also served as technical editor on a number of computer graphics books. Pete writes software documentation and does software testing for a variety of Photoshop- and Illustrator-related products.

Pete and his wife, Professor Mary Ellen O'Connell of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, live in the historic German Village area of Columbus, Ohio.

Contributing author Richard Romano is a writer and analyst for TrendWatch Graphic Arts, a division of Reed Business Information, for which he writes market research reports on various aspects of the graphic arts, printing, and publishing industries. He is also a writer and editor for TrendWatch Inc., an independent company created by the original founders of TrendWatch Graphic Arts that surveys the visual effects and broadcast/television markets. In 2001, he helped launch, and was executive editor of, CrossMedia magazine, a periodical that covers issues of interest to creative professionals producing content for print, Web, wireless, and other media.

Romano is the co-editor, with his father Frank Romano, of The GATF Encyclopedia of Graphic Communications, a compendium of more than 10,000 graphic arts terms published in 1997 by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation. As if that weren't enough, he is also the author of several books on graphics hardware and software, including Sams Teach Yourself Adobe InDesign 1.5 in 24 Hours, published by Sams Publishing, and The Scanning Workshop, published by Que Publishing. Richard was a contributor to Special Edition Using Photoshop 7, also published by Que. He also does freelance graphic design and editorial work. A former resident of such disparate places as New York, Los Angeles, and Salem, New Hampshire, he now lives in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Contributing author Daniel Giordan is an artist and designer who works as the design director for AOL Web Properties, coordinating the publishing designs for online properties such as Netscape, CompuServe, Mapquest, AIM, ICQ, and others. In addition to this book, he has authored four other books on Photoshop, including The Art of Photoshop, How to Use Photoshop CS, Using Photoshop, and Dynamic Photoshop. He has written other books addressing subjects such as Dreamweaver, Kai's PowerTools, and general design subjects. Dan also writes a monthly column for Photoshop User magazine.

With a master's degree in fine arts, Dan paints and works with photography while indulging an excessive interest in capturing every moment of his son's life on film.
