What's Different—Overview

The number and importance of the changes to Photoshop 7 certainly rank it as one of the top upgrades in the history of the program. Perhaps most important are the changes to the program's code that allow it to be fully compatible with Mac OS X and Windows XP. On the Macintosh side, a Carbonized (OS X native) Photoshop is perhaps as important as Microsoft Office for OS X. For PC users, XP compatibility means Photoshop is ready for the future, and for today.

Although the differences between Photoshop 6 and Photoshop 7 are perhaps not as dramatic as the inclusion of ImageReady in Photoshop 5.5, nor as constantly visible as the Options Bar in Photoshop 6, they certainly enable you to change the way you work—for the better. There are dozens of little changes as well as several rather sizable ones:
