Understanding Blending Modes

Any time two colors overlap, whether on separate layers or when a second color is added with a painting tool, one of two things can happen: The upper color can block (or replace) the lower completely, or the two colors can interact. Opacity and blending modes determine how one color interacts with colors below it.
