Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts, those preprogrammed combinations of keystrokes that replace mouse clicks and menu commands, have been thoroughly integrated into Photoshop. There are literally hundreds of key combinations that perform various tasks. A tremendous number of tasks, from changing tools in the Toolbox to changing a tool's blending mode to adding a new layer to an image, can be done by using the keyboard. They can, of course, be done other ways, too, but the keystrokes are often handiest.

Palette Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts have been assigned to show and hide several of the palettes. These shortcuts toggle the visibility of the palettes (and any palettes nested or docked with them). The two primary keyboard shortcuts are Tab to show and hide all palettes and Shift-Tab to show/hide all but the Toolbox and Options Bar.
