Image Resolution

An image's resolution is the relationship between its size in pixels and its size on a printed page. Resolution determines how large or small a raster image appears in print and the relative fineness or coarseness of detail. Although raster images are recorded and stored as a series of square pixels, they are printed as a series of dots.

The term “resolution” is also used to identify the capabilities and characteristics of various devices, such as monitors and scanners.
