Adding Rollovers and Animations to the Page

The basic rollover has only two stages: normal and over. This has been the standard in human interface design studies in the past decade, with the addition of the third stage, or click down, which gives immediate feedback to the user, confirming that the action or command has been accepted.

Simply put, an animated rollover is an area of a Web page that contains a hot spot with a JavaScript action attached to it. This hot spot reacts to a mouse cursor moving over the area, which causes an action or a reaction, such as a text pop-up, a rollover replacement graphic, or an animation playing.
