Image Maps

Image maps are invisible areas defined to overlay an image on a Web page so that you can assign links or rollovers. This is made possible without having to chop up images into small pieces and place them inside a table. In addition, you can select odd-shaped polygons or ovals as definable rollover areas. The only drawbacks are the lack of interactivity during a rollover action and the requirement that the image beneath the map be a GIF.

Open an image file in ImageReady and select an image map tool from the Toolbox (see Figure 23.15). For this example, I'm using the Polygon Image Map tool.
