Web Page Design Basics

Good Web page design is subjective to the person visiting your site. What one person might like and appreciate, such as nice graphics, animations, or Flash, can drive another person away, and some people might find a sterile information-only site unprofessional. We will not be showing you how to create a great Web site, but will help guide you to ask the right questions of your client and yourself so that you can discover the qualities you need to express in your site's design. Later on in this chapter, you'll learn how to create some basic design elements to enhance your Web site designs.

Several applications are available to help you create a Web page, but they won't necessarily help you create a good design. No application can automatically do that for you, but it does take a good application to help you create your site's design content. Understanding what your viewers want and expect to see is the start to a good design. Keeping them there and enticing them to continue clicking through the site depend on clean navigation, layout, and design.
