Chapter 9. Photoshop Color Management > Calibrating and Profiling the Monitor

Calibrating and Profiling the Monitor

A properly calibrated monitor provides you with an accurate view of color. If you have calibration hardware from such companies as Gretag Macbeth (www.gretagmacbeth.com), ColorVision (www.colorpar.com), or X-Rite (www.xrite.com), you can accurately adjust your monitor. Prepress professionals and other Photoshop users who rely on color accuracy should invest in hardware calibration equipment. If you output to a home/office inkjet printer or are a Web specialist, you might not benefit as much from the expenditure. If you don't have access to calibration hardware, you can adjust your monitor during the profiling process.

You can navigate to any drive or folder when loading your RGB profile, so there's no need to put it in a specific place. In fact, if you create a separate folder, there's less chance of losing the profile during a reinstall of Photoshop or the system software.
