Printing Line Art

Bitmap mode, or basically 1-bit images, are typically line art—in other words, drawn with lines. Line art is better handled as a vector image created in a program such as Illustrator and saved in EPS format. That way, the lines and shapes that compose the image will print at the resolution of the output device.

For a detailed look at Photoshop's Bitmap mode, see “Photoshop's Other Color Modes,” p. 173, in Chapter 7, “Color Theory and Practice.”
