Using the Extract Command

Masking subjects or objects out from a background is easier than having to shoot them in front of a blue or green screen. You can take virtually any photograph with a contrasting subject and background and “lift” the subject off the image by using the Extract command. Obviously, trying to use this method to mask out a white bunny in a snow bank will give you inadequate results—as will a poor-quality scan or compression-damaged JPEG file.

Whether you're creating intricate composite images or just making a simple logo, the Extract command speeds up your masking process. You'll be amazed at how fast and accurate the process is—especially on images you thought were impossible to get a clean mask from.
