Chapter 8. Defining and Choosing Colors > Working with Colors in Photoshop

Working with Colors in Photoshop

To apply a color to pixels in an image in Photoshop, the color must first be selected. This process of identifying the specific color with which you would like to work can be considered “activating” the color. After a color is selected, it can be added to the image by using a variety of tools and commands.

Colors must also be selected for a variety of other operations in Photoshop. For example, as discussed in Chapter 7, “Color Theory and Practice,” often duotone images and those in Indexed Color mode also require that you work with specific colors.
