Adjustment Layers: The Live Corrections

Most of the commands in the Image, Adjustments menu can be applied as adjustment layers. An adjustment layer changes the image's appearance without actually changing any pixel color values. In addition to preserving the original image data, adjustment layers can be reopened and settings changed. They can also be deleted at any time.

Adding an Adjustment Layer

You can add an adjustment layer through the Layers palette or the Layer menu (see Figure 16.40). Click and hold on the Add Adjustment Layer button at the bottom of the palette and select the type of adjustment from the list. Alternatively, use the menu command Layer, New Adjustment Layer and choose from the submenu.
