Chapter 15. Channels: Color and More > Working with Channels

Working with Channels

Editing channels in Photoshop gives you perhaps the ultimate control over an image's appearance. You can individually manipulate each component color value of each pixel or change a single component color for all pixels. You can even change all color values for every pixel.

Even if you've never opened the Channels palette, you've worked with channels before. Every time you've used Levels or Curves, you've directly manipulated the channels. At a more basic level, every time you change any pixel in any way, you're making a change to one or more color channels. Remember that without the channels, the pixel doesn't have color. Without color, the pixel is invisible.
