Chapter 15. Channels: Color and More > The Three Types of Channels

The Three Types of Channels

Channels are used by Photoshop to store image information. Every image has at least one channel, just as it has at least one layer. The layers hold artwork, and the channels hold the color information for that artwork. An image can have up to 24 total channels. There are three types of channels, two of which contain color data and one for storing selections.
