Chapter 18. Applying Photoshop's Filters > The Brush Strokes Filters

The Brush Strokes Filters

Similar to the Artistic filters, the Brush Strokes filters have both practical and painterly qualities to their application. Several creative effects can be achieved from almost all the Brush Strokes filters, but I'll be able to cover only a few in this chapter. It's my recommendation that you “joy ride” in these filter dialog boxes and discover all the great effects you can come up with, simply by dragging sliders around and checking the results in the preview window.

Accented Edges

Just by the name of the Accented Edges filter, it's easy to determine what the effect might be on an image. Besides its practical application, you can achieve many artistic and painterly effects by exaggerating the settings. In this example, bumping up Edge Brightness to the maximum setting produces an airbrushed effect and reducing Edge Width to its minimum setting gives you a watercolor effect (see Figure 18.30).
