Filter Applications

The best way to use a filter on an image is to copy the image layer and apply your filter to the copy. By doing this, you can experiment with several filters without damaging the original image layer. Make sure to copy the original image to a new layer with (Command-J) [Ctrl+J], and apply the filter to the copied layer. For color corrections and blurs, use an adjustment layer to apply the filter to.

The examples in this chapter are scaled to best represent the filter and size for the figures used in printing this book. Make sure when you apply these filter techniques to your images that you take into consideration the actual size, scale, and resolution of the image file when applying number values and percentages.
