Life in the Fast Lane: production tips > TIME FOR SOME PANTONE CONVENIENCE

TIME FOR SOME PANTONE CONVENIENCE

If you're using Pantone colors often in your work, you'll kill a lot of time if you pick your colors by clicking on the Color Swatches in the Toolbox to bring up the Color Picker, and then click on the Custom button to bring up the Custom Color Picker where you can type in the number of the Pantone color you want (if you're lucky enough to know that number off the top of your head. If not, then you'll have to scroll through the Pantone Color Picker). But there's a faster, easier way-—load the Pantone colors into your Swatches palette. You do that by opening the Swatches palette (found under the Window menu), and in the palette's pop-down menu, choose Pantone Solid Coated. A dialog will appear asking whether you want to add (Append) these Pantone colors to your existing swatches or replace the current swatches with the Pantone set (I'd choose to replace, but hey, that's just me). Then, in the palette's pop-down menu, choose Small List to display both a swatch and the color's Pantone number.
