THIS IS NOT THE INTRODUCTION > 100% all cool new stuff!

100% all cool new stuff!

If you're one of the people who bought the Photoshop 7 version of this book, I have good news and bad news. First, the good news. This new version of the book kicks that book in the butt (I didn't want to say butt. I wanted to use a stronger word with one less letter, but my Editor wouldn't let me. He's so “Sassy” [note: drop the “s,” drop the “y”—you get the picture]). Rather than updating the old book, I tossed every effect from that book straight into the trash and started from scratch, bringing you all new, way cool, cutting-edge Photoshop special effects.

That's because I wanted this book to reflect what people are really doing with Photoshop today. I wanted it filled with step-by-step tutorials on the same effects you see today on TV, in the movies, in print, and on the Web, so you can go and apply these same techniques to your own work today. To do that, I had to trash every technique from the Photoshop 7 version of the book, and start over creating entirely new cutting edge tutorials. Although starting from scratch was a pain in the butt (again—wanted to use another word) now that it's done, I'm so glad I did. Honestly, I'm more excited about the effects that I'm getting to share with you here than anything I've written before. I think the reason I'm so excited is that I learned so much while doing this book. I had to figure out effects that I honestly had no idea how they were done; but now that I know them (and soon you will too) it has reignited my passion for special effects (hey, anything that ignites passion can't be bad. At least, that's what they're always saying on Cinemax). So that's the good news—this book is packed with all new effects, and they reflect what the professional Photoshop designers and photographers are doing with Photoshop today.
