Chapter 5. I Want Candy: Photoshop iCandy > Blurred Backscreen Effect

Blurred Backscreen Effect

This effect has really become popular in the past 12 months, and I'm seeing it everywhere, from print to TV. It's a takeoff on the classic backscreened effect (where you darken or lighten an area of your photo so that text can placed over the photo and still be easily read); but what they're doing now is blurring just the area behind the screen, leaving the rest of the photo un-blurred, which helps make the type even more readable.

Quick Tip: The fastest way to set your Foreground color to white

Want your Foreground color to be white in a hurry? Just press “d” and then “x.” That's it!
