Chapter 13. CREATIVE COMPOSITING > PERSONAL SIGNIFIERS

PERSONAL SIGNIFIERS

Adding textures, symbiotic references, historical artifacts, or a signature lends a personal touch to an image. Textures can represent experience, time passing, or challenges overcome. Including a hand-written note or historical document connects a contemporary image with your family history. Texture can also be used to tie a series of images together. How you sign a print and what you print an image on adds to the personal expression of the image. Applying this finishing touch is not a time for plug-ins or tricks—it is a moment for introspection and reflection to express your uniqueness.

Texture and Details

Some images are all about texture. In figure 13.43, for example, Jeff Heller has added visual interest to his image by adding texture. Texture can be reminiscent of natural media and the world away from computers. You can add it with a variety of techniques, which I hope you will experiment with.
