ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This book has been on my “to-do” list for a very long time. I sincerely thank all the people who have supported me in crossing it off that list.

A heartfelt thank you to Mark Beckelman, whose images grace many of these pages. Your photography, insights, patience, and good humor made this project a pleasure to work on. Thank you to Wayne Palmer, technical editor: your queries, suggestions, and logic were essential to making the book such a valuable learning tool.

Thanks to all the artists and photographers who allowed me to feature the images and techniques that make this book shine. They are listed in the appendix, along with their contact info or Web sites. Thanks especially to Cathy Kudelko, Schecter Lee, and John Parsekian for facilitating some of the best images in the book.

Thank you to the many industry professionals who have answered questions and lent me equipment to work with: Thomas Knoll, Mark Hamburg, Marc Pawlinger, Russell Brown, John Nack, Myke Ninness, and Julieanne Kost at Adobe Systems; Richard LoPinto and Steve Heiner at Nikon; Debbie Rich at Digital Anarchy; Ted Lane at Dynamic Graphics; and Bill Lindsey, Scott Rawlings, and Mark Mehall at Wacom.

Thanks also to the many Photoshop users, students, and experts I have had the honor and pleasure to learn from: Kevin Ames, John Paul Caponigro, Jack Davis, Linnea Dayton, Jim DiVitale, Martin Evening, Bruce Fraser, Greg Gorman, Michael Kieran, Deke McClelland, Bert Monroy, Jack Reznicki, Andrew Rodney, Jeff Schewe, Eddie Tapp, Ben Wilmore, and Colin Woods.

Finally, a big thanks to everyone at New Riders and Peachpit for letting this book develop at an ice-age pace: Elise Walter (moving on but not forgotten), Steve Weiss, Jake McFarland, Kim Scott, Jill Marts Lodwig, Hilal Sala, and Jay Payne. And to Beth Millett: Your insights and suggestions made me make sense and helped me more than you know.
