Creating HTML Layouts Using Fireworks Slicing

Regardless of the method that you use to get Fireworks’ assets into Dreamweaver, the most important step is to divide your Fireworks graphics into pieces that are distinguished by function, such as a rollover or image map, and/or by optimization, such as a JPEG and/or a GIF. This is done by slicing the image within Fireworks using the Slice tool.

If you export a Fireworks file using the HTML and Images setting in the Export dialog box, Fireworks generates an HTML table that replicates the design, which means that each slice is replicated as a table cell, using the <td> tag, in the exported HTML file. Then, Fireworks inserts each of the sliced graphics into these table cells, which gives the holistic impression that the HTML page is a single, large image.
