Setting Selective JPEG Compression

Selective JPEG compression in Fireworks allows you to set different areas of a single JPEG graphic to a different compression setting. Some areas of an image might require more detail to be held and can be set at a high level of compression, while areas of less significance can be compressed at a lower level. This technique helps reduce the overall size and allows quality to be maintained where needed.

Selective JPEG compression is another technique that can optimize images that contain both solid-color and continuous-tone areas. The boxes_01.png file will be optimized with this method. Then, you can compare and see which method gives the best result:
